Not far from Olbia, nestled at the foot of the hill of Cabu Abbas, the Tomba dei giganti di Su Monte ‘e S’Abe stands as a masterpiece of Sardinian megalithism due to its size and state of conservation.

This imposing funerary monument offers a unique perspective on the evolution of Nuragic architecture, hiding within its structure the remains of an older allée couverte burial, which was adapted during the Bronze Age with the addition of a dramatic exedra.
The visual impact upon arrival is breathtaking. A semicircle of large granite slabs, set vertically into the ground, opens like a protective embrace, dominated at the center by the famous arched stele. Stepping ideally through the small opening at the base to observe the long covered corridor allows one to feel the majesty of a collective sacred space, conceived to seal the bond between the living clan, the cult of the ancestors, and the ancestral strength of the land.

Immersed in the quiet of the Olbia countryside, surrounded by wild olive trees and the scents of mastic, Su Monte ‘e S’Abe also offers an evocative visual dialogue with the silhouette of the Castello di Pedres, which rises in isolation on the hill opposite. A visit offers the charm of a unique journey between prehistory and the Middle Ages, where the majesty of the ancient stones marries perfectly with the Gallura landscape.
