Of the 800 counted so far across Sardinia, the “Casa dell’Orco” of Siddi is without doubt one of the island’s most fascinating and best-preserved Nuragic tombs!

Straight from the Middle Bronze Age, in a primeval oasis at the heart of the Marmilla known as the Giara di Siddi, comes to us in all its splendour a marvellous example of megalithic funerary architecture.
Sa Dom’e S’Orcu is 18 metres long and was built 3,500 years ago from massive blocks of dark basalt, enabling it to withstand the passing of centuries — and the events they contained — with impeccable style.

Originally created and used by local communities as a burial site for a long period, it was later appropriated by the Punics and Romans for different purposes. Excavations have uncovered grave goods dating to the 16th century BC, fragments of a bowl inscribed with Neo-Punic writing, Roman tableware, and coins from the Savoy period.

Whether for its fascinating history or its lush natural setting, this tomba dei giganti — “giant’s tomb” — is without question the perfect place to breathe in an atmosphere unlike any other, where the heady scent of archaeology blends seamlessly with the gentle perfume of Mediterranean scrub that defines this captivating and verdant landscape.
