An ancient site with a truly dramatic atmosphere — so evocative that, if you’re a writer in search of inspiration for your next fantasy or adventure novel, you’ll find it here without a doubt.

We are in the Giara di Siddi, in the heart of the Marmilla, a natural oasis with a strong volcanic character, home to one of the area’s most fascinating prehistoric traces.
A single glance is enough to see how the volcanic imprint of this land shaped the development of the peoples who inhabited it over the millennia — from the pre-Nuragic to the Punic, and later the Romans.
Standing 300 metres above sea level and built 4,000 years ago from massive blocks of dark basalt, the Nuraghe Sa Fogaia was not only a strategic lookout over the surrounding territory, but above all a site for working obsidian quarried from nearby Mount Arci.
At the height of its splendour, it rose an imposing 20 metres over the landscape; today, after several dozen centuries, it still preserves walls 5 metres high, enclosing within them a maze of chambers just waiting to be explored and admired.
Excavations here have uncovered a wealth of artefacts attesting to the importance of this once-thriving centre: vases, cups and bowls, a bronze awl and pottery, decorated plates, amphorae, and a jug.

The Nuraghe Sa Fogaia is one of the most striking archaeological sites in the Marmilla, and, thanks to its unique and captivating natural setting, it is the perfect place to immerse yourself in thrilling, novel-worthy journeys of the imagination.
