The imposing masonry of the Candelargiu nuraghe, resting on the heights of the territory of San Giovanni Suergiu, dominates the landscape of Sulcis with a solemn presence that testifies to the extraordinary construction skill achieved during the Bronze Age.
The architecture of the complex highlights a marked structural complexity, designed to adapt to the slopes of the terrain and integrate with the orography of the hill. The central keep forms the core of the layout and is flanked by secondary bodies, curtain walls, and masonry additions that amplify its monumental character. The external facings, created through the overlapping of majestic rows of worked local stone blocks laid dry, display a geometric rigor capable of defying the millennia. The interior spaces, articulated among rooms and covered passageways, demonstrate the technical wisdom with which master builders knew how to distribute loads and shape the volumes of stone, giving the structure a dual function as a territorial stronghold and a symbol of power.
