The imposing Nuragic fortress of Adoni, perched at over eight hundred meters above sea level in the territory of Villanova Tulo, immediately captures the eye with its spectacular presence in the hilly landscape of Sarcidano.
The architecture of the complex surprises with the incredible harmony with which master builders shaped the stone onto the living rock. At the center of the scene stands the main tower, embraced by a robust four-tower bastion and protected by an additional curtain wall that amplifies the majesty of the whole. The large blocks of local dolomite, skillfully dry-fitted, provide a visual impact of great energy and expressive force. Venturing among the masonry reveals a dynamic tangle of corridors, staircases, and courtyards, conceived with extraordinary intelligence to shape a secure and vibrant space.
All around the core of the fortress winds a vast village of huts that tells a rich and long-lived story, spanning the centuries well into the Roman and Early Middle Ages. The prestigious finds of bronze figurines (bronzetti) and fine ceramics testify to the great vibrancy of Adoni, an authentic strategic, commercial, and cultural crossroads in the beating heart of Sardinia.
