While many megalithic burials in Gallura stand out on open heights, the giants' tomb of Pascaredda chooses the gloom and protection of the woods.
Nestled at the foot of Mount Limbara, in the territory of Calangianus, this funerary structure surprises anyone who reaches it because it seems to emerge directly from the roots of the cork oaks and holm oaks that surround it.
The peculiarity of this sepulcher lies in its coursed masonry construction technique, quite different from monuments dominated by a single monolithic block. The facade of the exedra preserves a series of squared granite blocks superimposed with admirable precision, at the center of which opens the small rectangular door carved into an entrance slab worked as a stele. The internal corridor, over eight meters long, still maintains a good part of its original flat-slab roofing, offering the rare sensation of observing a burial chamber almost intact in its volume.
The nearby course of the Laccu stream guaranteed the sacred water essential for the ceremonies that the community performed in the front square. Visiting Pascaredda means immersing oneself in a suspended and almost fairy-tale atmosphere, where the contrast between the austere gray of the granite and the green of the Gallura forest yields an unforgettable portrait of ancient Nuragic religiosity.
