Campidano of Sanluri and Marmilla

Sanluri

History, food and wine, traditions, landscapes.
Four rich and irresistible flavours that firmly place Sanluri on the menu of the most appetising villages in all of Sardinia!

After all, what better pairing could there be for a town whose name means “Place of Grain” than a culinary one?
Sanluri is, in itself, an ancient recipe – the product of a blend of the finest ingredients and an undeniable medieval charm: from the 17th-century Capuchin Convent, perched on the town’s highest hill, to the elegant Eleonora d’Arborea Castle – the only one still inhabited among the 83 castles in Sardinia – which takes centre stage during Sa Battalla, the renowned re-enactment of the tragic 1409 battle between the Kingdom of Arborea and the Crown of Aragon.

Then come the authentic aromas of agropastoral traditions and the rich food and wine culture, celebrated during the Feast of Saint Martin and the Borgo Festival. Here, visitors can step back in time, immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the ancient Campidanese lifestyle, and savour local specialities such as fava beans, malloreddus pasta, sausage, wine, and, of course, Sua Maestà Su Civraxiu – the quintessential Sanluri bread.

To complete the picture, the experience is framed by landscapes found nowhere else in Sardinia: the Campidano plain on one side and the soft, ancient hills of the Marmilla on the other. Together, they form the perfect backdrop for a village that delights the senses step by step – or, if you prefer, bite by bite.
