Say what you will, but in life size really does matter. Humans know it, animals know it, and even waterfalls know it—and among all those on the island (and there are dozens), Muru Mannu is the one with the longest drop.

Of course, I’m talking about the maximum plunge of the river of the same name which, with a sheer 70-meter fall down the “Great Wall” (Muru Mannu), proudly holds the title of the tallest waterfall in Sardinia, outshining legendary giants like Lequarci and S’Istrampu de Capo Nieddu.
And speaking of length, reaching this small oasis nestled in the Monte Linas massif means tackling a trail of about 10 kilometers round trip, completely immersed in wild, luxuriant nature. It’s a long and at times demanding hike, but simply following the streams that run along the old mule tracks leads you step by step into landscapes with a documentary feel and a touch of fantasy: Mediterranean-scented woods, gorges, clearings, abandoned shepherds’ huts, and old charcoal kilns.

In short, an experience where size truly does matter—and one that rewards visitors twice over: with the awe that hits you the moment you arrive and stand before this imposing natural monument and its magical pool, and with the deep sense of harmony with nature that comes from such an intense and fulfilling trek.
