Located in the municipal territory of Milis, along the road toward Bonarcado, the Cobulas nuragic complex, also known as Cuccuru de Is Zanas, represents one of the most intricate archaeological testimonies in the Oristano area.
The monument stands out for its extraordinary planimetric articulation and the volumetric imposingness that has characterized the site since its origins in the Bronze Age.
The structure is configured as a large pentalobed nuraghe, consisting of a central tower or keep surrounded by a spacious courtyard and a bastion uniting five peripheral towers built from basalt blocks. This tholos architecture rivals other major complexes on the island in grandeur, highlighting a clear defensive, residential, and strategic territorial control function.
Around the monumental core lie the remains of an extensive ancient settlement, bearing witness to a very long period of habitation stretching from the Nuragic age down to the Late Punic, Roman Republican, and Early Medieval eras. Despite partial damage caused by past agricultural work, the site continues to yield extraordinary artifacts, confirming the historical importance of this millennial crossroads.
