Abbarossa takes its name from the area's ancient iron-rich springs, marking the seamless transition between the coastline of Santa Giusta and the territory of Arborea within the Gulf of Oristano.
Its geographical position makes it a prime spot for local birdwatching. Sitting on the narrow strip of land that separates the sea from a network of inland brackish lagoons, including the Santa Giusta Lagoon and nearby fishing ponds, the beach is regularly crossed by herons, cormorants, and pink flamingos moving between the wetlands.
In terms of accessibility, the area benefits greatly from the flat landscape of the Campidano plain. Access is straightforward, the parking areas behind the beach are spacious and level, and the entire zone is traversed by cycle paths and unpaved trails perfect for biking. It is a favorite spot among locals from neighboring towns for off-season walks, as well as anyone looking for an open space for outdoor sports, dog walking, or shore fishing in the evening hours.
