In Sardinia, even in the wildest places where nature reigns supreme, such as the Golgo plateau, ancient human traces can be found that, precisely because of the natural context in which they are immersed, evoke a sense of wonder with an even more intense flavor.
It is here that the Alvu nuraghe, also known as Genna 'e Sarmentu, rises in isolation on a limestone ridge. Its position allowed it to dominate the natural passes connecting the inland pastures with the Ogliastra coast, ensuring constant control over the territory.
The structure, today partially collapsed and inaccessible inside due to the rubble obstructing the entrance, retains the majesty of its masonry texture on the outside. Observing the facing wall, one notices the use of massive blocks of light-colored stone superimposed dry-stacked, which originally closed in the typical tholos roofing. Along the exterior, the outlines of what was once a solid nuragic tower well integrated into the rock are still visible.
All around the bastion, the remains of the village huts emerge among the vegetation, serving as a reference point for managing livestock during the Bronze Age. The Alvu nuraghe remains a fascinating testament to how prehistoric man knew how to integrate their architecture into the scenic and rugged landscape of the island for centuries.
