Built in 1936, it is a temple of eternal rest that houses the remains of 7,048 Austro-Hungarian soldiers who were taken prisoner and brought to Asinara during the Great War.

Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by a long and solemn staircase leading up from the road to the austere mausoleum, which rests on a small hill overlooking the crystal-clear sea and framed by the island’s wild, untouched landscape.

At first glance, the presence of the Ossuary in such a natural setting might seem somewhat out of place, but on reflection, there is probably no better place than this to feel truly in paradise.
