A classic case of a beach named after the two main features that stood out back when these names were coined: the mulberry tree and the prisoners.
Nowadays, in this stunning cove just outside Cala d’Oliva, you can still spot one of those two things — and no, it’s not the prisoners. Unless you, dear reader, happen to be an escaped convict pretending to be a tourist on Asinara… but assuming that’s not the case, it’s the Murighessa (the local word for “mulberry” in Italian) that still defines the bay, giving it a bucolic and pleasantly unexpected atmosphere for a beach.
As for the sea itself, it’s the usual standard found all around the island of donkeys — and on Asinara, “standard” means breathtakingly magnificent.
Just a few meters further along awaits Cala d’Oliva, a whitewashed village frozen in time.
Cala Murichessa is the perfect spot to soak in the magic of this place, sharing its beauty with the true locals: the donkeys, who come here to rest in the shade and enjoy a moment of pure tranquility.
